Perth’s South Summit has rapidly emerged as one of the most exciting new voices in Australian music. Formed after a chance meeting at a backyard party, the five-piece band, Zaya (lead vocals), Josh (bass), Fynn (lead guitar), Nemo (backing vocals, rhythm guitar), and Nathan (drums), bonded over their diverse tastes and cultural backgrounds. Though it took some convincing to bring everyone together, the result has been a powerful, genre-blending sound that sets them apart from the rest of the country’s scene.Since their beginnings in 2021, South Summit have captivated audiences with music that draws from rock, reggae, and hip-hop while offering fresh perspectives on life. Their three EPs: Merlin’s (2021), Creatures (2023), and Tales of the Yeti (2023), built a loyal following and laid the foundation for their acclaimed 2024 debut album The Bliss, featuring singles “Givin’ It Up,” “Ottoway,” “Catacombs,” and “Exceptional.” That same year, they made an unforgettable mark on Triple J’s Like A Version with their stirring cover of “Roxanne.”But South Summit’s identity goes beyond studio recordings.
